The Story
Her Road follows Xiaoxin, a postgraduate from Jiangxi who moves to Guangzhou to work in drain unblocking after an unsuccessful attempt at the civil service examination. Through scenes of repairs, tool maintenance and exchanges with fellow tradeswoman Master Bao, the documentary explores the pressures of physical labour, customers’ doubts about women in the trade, and the support these women offer one another. The film traces their choices and perseverance as they build careers beyond conventional gender expectations.
