None of the 33 women taking part in the programme was someone Grace Chan knew well. When she first arrived on Ride the Wind 2026, the language barrier put her at a slight disadvantage. She also felt she lacked the necessary skills and was not confident.

Yet in this setting, friendships between women formed naturally. After practice assessments, her teammates would gather around her, offering praise: “Grace, do you know how well you just did?” Their warmth, friendliness and confidence, together with the scent of their perfume, surrounded her and lifted her spirits. “Sometimes it doesn’t feel like a competition, because in a competition everyone wants to do well for themselves. But it’s different here: everyone wants everyone else to do well.”
